When a public holiday takes place on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, the Monday, Tuesday or Friday is sometimes taken as an official holiday to make a long weekend; working Saturdays are imposed to make up for the extra day’s holiday. These public holidays also apply to schools.
